LESSON 17

Comparatives
vs Superlatives

🎯

Your mission

Learn when to use taller than and when to use the tallest!

LET'S REMEMBER

Two forms — two different jobs

Comparative і superlative схожі, але ми використовуємо їх у різних ситуаціях.

🦓 🦒

2 THINGS

Comparative

taller + than

Ми порівнюємо два предмети, людей або тварин.

The giraffe is taller than the zebra.

🐰 🦓 🦒

3 OR MORE

Superlative

the + tallest

Ми обираємо одного №1 з цілої групи.

The giraffe is the tallest.

💡

Головне питання: ти порівнюєш два чи обираєш одного з групи?

COMPARATIVE

When do we use a comparative?

Comparative потрібен, коли ми прямо порівнюємо один об'єкт з іншим.

2️⃣

TWO THINGS adjective + ER + THAN

🐘 🐕

The elephant is bigger than the dog.

🐆 🐎

The cheetah is faster than the horse.

🦒 🦓

The giraffe is taller than the zebra.

🔎

Шукай слово THAN

У comparative після форми bigger, taller, faster дуже часто бачимо than — «ніж».

SUPERLATIVE

When do we use a superlative?

Superlative потрібен, коли в нас є група і ми обираємо одного №1.

🏆

ONE FROM A GROUP THE + adjective + EST

🐭 🐕 🐘

The elephant is the biggest.

🐢 🐎 🐆

The cheetah is the fastest.

🐰 🦓 🦒

The giraffe is the tallest.

👑

Не забувай THE

У superlative ми кажемо the biggest, the fastest, the tallest.

SEE THE DIFFERENCE

Same adjective. Different meaning.

🐰🦓🦒 the tallest

BIG

🐭🐕🐘 the biggest
